Nacimiento de Pink Floyd

Nace la banda Pink Floyd a partir de una banda anterior que utilizó distintos nombres, (Sigma 6, T-Set, Megadeaths, The Screaming Abdabs, The Architectural Abdabs y The Abdabs), llegando a denominarse The Pink Floyd Sound, para quedarse posteriormente en The Pink Floyd y finalmente sólo Pink Floyd al publicar su primer disco en 1967. Los componentes originales fueron: Bob Klose (guitarra solista), Syd Barrett (voces, guitarra rítmica), Richard Wright (voces, teclados), Roger Waters (voces, bajo) y Nick Mason (batería). Syd Barrett dominaba la composición influido por el rock psicodélico y el rock surf.

En el verano de 1965, Bob Klose (más cercano al jazz) se vio forzado a abandonar la banda por las presiones de sus padres y de sus profesores universitarios, dejando un cuarteto más estable. De este modo, Barrett se reveló como el principal compositor del grupo, y pronto comenzó a escribir nuevas canciones con influencias del rhythm and blues de Bo Diddley.

Pink Floyd lanzó durante su trayectoria 15 álbumes de estudio (uno de los cuales es una mezcla de en vivo y estudio), 3 álbumes en vivo (sin volver a contar el álbum mezclado), 9 recopilaciones, 4 box sets, 6 EP, 27 sencillos, 28 videos musicales y nueve álbumes en video.
